The Angel In The Marble

Image
"I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." -Michelangelo      I came across that quote in a book I read a couple of months ago and it's been running through my head occasionally ever since. I instantly loved it, probably because it has something to do with angels. I find it very fitting to think about this Mother's Day too.      It makes me think a lot about my relationship with my kids. Envisioning the great men they have the potential to be is humbling and puts me in my place as far as buckling down and being their mother goes. These years are crucial in their carving and I play such a big role.      However, the carving works both ways. Whether they know it or not, I feel their chisels chipping away at me quite frequently. It's kind of funny to imagine it actually. Random chips and chunks they're making with their toddler-like chiseling, but somehow they have the potential to make a masterpiece. I pray...

Benson Turns 3

Image
This little darling just turned 3. Here's the run down on this shiny new 3-year-old: He's got a lot of spunk packed into his cute little body. He is very social. He'll talk your ear off if you let him, and often even when you're trying not to let him too. If he has been trying to get your attention away from someone else who is talking to you he'll put his hands on your cheeks and turn your face until you're looking him right in the eye and then he'll proceed to tell you all about what's on his mind. He loves talking to my other mom friends too. He'll chime into my conversations and say, "Mommy, I gotta tell Annie something," and so he does! He's weighing in at 32 lbs and he's 36.75 inches tall. His favorite color is blue. His favorite movie is Big Hero 6 because "it has one bad guy in it." His favorite snack is crackers and his favorite meal is oatmeal. His favorite book of the moment is Bammy's con...

Jackson Turns 3

Image
This cute boy just turned 3. Let me tell you about this cute boy. He loves work that requires tools. Raking, planting, sweeping, mopping, planting, washing the car, you name it! Get a cleaning tool out and he'll keep asking when his turn is. He loves playing outside, especially getting his hands in dirt. He is tender. Telling him to be careful, or not to do something can instantly lead to tears. "Poopy diaper" is the most hilarious thing uttered by man. When we ask if he wants his hair "combed over" or "spiky" he always chooses "spiky." I don't think I even remember the last time I saw his hair styled combed over. He has a very prancy run which Jayce and I enjoy immensely.  He's weighing in at 33 lbs and is 38 inches tall.  Favorite colors are brown and green. His favorite movie is "the Star Wars trailers" because to him, watching Star Wars is watching this YouTube video which compiles all of the trailer...

Meet Spencer

Image
This is Spencer: We think he's pretty cute.   Here's what we know about him so far: He doesn't love baths just yet, but he does look precious in his new towel. He makes me resort to whatever I can think of to try to keep him awake when he eats. But sometimes I just think, "Come on man, what am I supposed to do with this?" :-) He was doing great about keeping everything in his diaper until Aunt Kimber cursed him. As the story goes, the Porter ladies requested some pictures of Spence. So, I complied. But I forgot one simple thing: If you give a Mom a baby picture, she's going to want her own baby to go with it. They were each feeling very baby hungry suddenly, so in desperation Kimber cried, "Quick! Send us a picture of a blow out!" Several hours later Spencer had his first blow out and proceeded to have two more that day and at least one almost every day since. So, to Kimber I say, :-) ...

Visitors in the Hospital

Image
I spent one night in the hospital before heading home. I love that special one-on-one time in the hospital.  Here are some pictures from those first couple of days. First visitor goes to Grampy. Mom and Dad P. woke up to a text from Jayce letting them know that we had left for the hospital in the night. Surprise! Grampy stopped by early in the morning before heading to work and Jayce went back for Bammy and the boys shortly after.   Ben was the only one who wanted to hold Spencer. Cameron and Jack were too taken by the hospital in general. Facetiming with the boys in the hospital, they kept asking how we were doing in the hospital and if they could see baby Spencer. Got a text from Carrie Schmutz saying that she just happened to be in town and wanted to stop by on her way to a wedding with a friend! Love the Schmutz's! Connor proved himself to be like my dad--a baby whisperer. And Spencer was fresh out of a physiology class and had several quest...
