My Senior Project

Image
Well, so long dance major I've finished my senior project and I'm outta there. I was nervous about it, but I ended up really enjoying the overall experience. I've never considered myself a "choreographer." I love performing and I've always preferred being on a warm, energy filled stage than being the one leading the rehearsals and biting my nails in the audience during the performance. I was lucky enough to have five top notch dancers by my side though, so it was actually really relaxing to be in the audience just watching and enjoying the show. I trusted them and knew that they would be flawless. I choreographed a piece called "Seen and Unseen" inspired by a talk given in the LDS General Conference by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland entitled, "The Ministry of Angels." He gave the talk in the fall of 2008 and it has stuck with me ever since. His talk along with personal experience and experiences of others drove the dance. There are some ...

One Big Fat Weekend

Image
I kicked off my weekend by taking a public & non-profit finance test (which didn't go as well as the first one...probably because I ran out of time to study..!) and Jayce kicked it off in the research lab up on campus. Friday night I had my first of three DancEnsemble in Concert shows. It was such a great show. Jayce, Joel, Laura, and Scotty all came Friday night and it made me so happy! This is Tricia and I right before the first show, getting ready for Ashley Bradshaw's dance, "Letting Go, Looking Forward." The performance went great. The show ended around 9:30pm and at 10:00 friends came over to our place so that Scotty could open his mission call! This is round two for Mr. Scotty Warczak. He's a good friend from freshmen year who got his call to Scotland freshmen year (I know right? Scotty going to Scotland). He was a few weeks away from going into the Missionary Training Center when he found out that he had cancer. He's spent the last two years g...

The Faculty Concert

Image
This is the beautiful painting that Cassandra Barney painted of one of the dances that I was in in the BYU Modern Dance Faculty Concert. This part of the piece was choreographed by Susan Lloyd who originally based it on another one of her artworks and then Cassandra decided to just paint a picture of the three of us. I'm either the one in the blue because I wore a blue dress, or the one in the red because she's in the same pose that I was in in the picture Cassandra used to paint the portrait. I'll go with whichever! Cassandra said that she would probably sell the painting at her next art show for a few thousand dollars..a little steep for me and Jayce. Jayce brought his Nana along to the show as his date. Like every wonderful Grandma, the dance that I was in was her favorite of course. :-) This is Cassandra Barney and her sister, Emilie McPhie. They both had choreography based on their artwork. We gave them BYU Dance shirts as a thank you and they had a lot of fun b...
