The Utah To-Do List: Provo Day

Image
Jayce and I have recently started working on our "things to do before we leave Utah" list. It isn't very long, but there are some things that we just needed to do before we depart for CO. The first things to check off our list were in Provo. Oh how we love Provo. As we were driving through our old stomping grounds--the dorms, Liberty Square, Beesley, Regency, campus--we realized that Provo will always have a special little place in our hearts. We both have such fond memories there from before we met to the day we moved out with Cameron in tow. I heart you, Provo! First thing on the list: Hiking the Y, which is much harder than I remember, but that might have had something to do with the fact that I had an extra 23 pounds strapped to me. MAN you're a big fat boy Cameron! ;-) We ate at our favorite place for lunch, J Dawgs. Mmm..I was tempted to buy their special sauce and take it with me to CO, but I resisted. Did you know they opened another...

Hikes

Image
Lindsey and the kids came to visit us from CO for the week and one of the most fun things we did was go hiking! There are so many trails up here and we wanted to explore some of them a little more. Me, Jessie, and Lindsey ran a couple of miles on one that goes from our house to about half way down the mountain and Jayce picked us up at the bottom. It was fun for us because it brought back memories of the three of us training for our marathon two years ago. There's nothing like running in the fresh mountain air, it makes it SO enjoyable.  The next day we decided to hike a trail that would lead us to one of the hills around the house that gives you a 360 view of Salt Lake County and Utah County. You get to see both valleys! It was a hard hike, but it was incredible. Here is the video: and some snapshots: Oh hey Salt Lake! Oh hey Alpine! And what else do you do when you feel like you're on top of the world?  Take dancing pictures of course. ...

The Air Up There

Image
Sometimes I look out the window and see this: Fog. Here it's not quite so thick, but you still can't see the valley below: I love days like these because it makes me feel like curling up by the fire and reading. It does have it's eerie qualities though. Have you ever seen the movie The Others? You know the part when Nicole Kidman goes to find a doctor in the village and gets lost in all of the fog? Yeah, it's like that. It creeps up on you as you get higher up on the mountain and by the time you're driving around the neighborhoods up here you're going about 10 miles an hour because you can't see 5 feet in front of you. It's fun though, don't get me wrong. However, sometimes the roles are reversed and the fog is only down in the valley and everything up here is bright and sunny. This is more rare, but I love it! The valley is literally just a blanket of clouds and you can't tell where the sky starts and the fog ends on the horizon. ...

My Morning Walk

Image
In an effort to stay in shape I've have taken up walking in the mornings. I just can't bring myself to run yet...maybe in the spring. ;-) Today I set out and upon walking out the garage I immediately turned around because I decided that it was a must that I bring the camera today. There were big ominous grey clouds coming in and the air just smelled fresh and fierce at the same time. That sounds weird, but I can't describe it much better than that. It pumped me up for my walk. Here's my mighty man that I take along to scare away strangers: Arrrgh!! Here is the initial view upon walking out the front door: Here is a look out point once you get to the end of our street where you can look out and see the Utah County side of the mountain. The rainclouds had blown in from the Provo area, which you can tell is starting to get blue skies. Notice the trees on the mountain too. I love fall! Standing around the same spot where I took the previous two photos, I...

For the Beauty of the Earth!

For the past few summers, Jayce has volunteered with T.E.R.T. (Timpanogos Emergency Response Team). Sounds pretty snazzy right? This is my second time going up there with him. He goes up there with other EMT people and they camp out for the weekend and help take care of injuries that happen on the mountain, call life flight if need be, etc. So really, this is what we did the whole time: Played some mad UNO with the crew by the shack next to Emerald Lake! Haha, just kiddin' babe, I know you've done some pretty cool stuff up there. ;-) But really...this time things were rather uneventful as far as injuries go except for a couple of blisters and cuts. However we had an AWESOME time. Here are some treasured pictures from our eventful weekend: One of the many waterfalls on the way up from the bottom of the Aspen Grove trail head. Let me tell you how this picture came to be...Chad: "Whoa..I kind of want to go under the ice pack..." Jayce: "No way man. Me too!...
