Snail Speed

Image
I've decided that this is me: Forget the tortoise, I am the snail. And I'm cool with it. It feels pretty good to embrace snail speed. I tried so hard to push against it, but it turns out acceptance of snail speed is the first step towards tortoise speed, which I may graduate to next year. Or in 2027, I like being unpredictable that way. In the meantime, I'll be sliming along with some sun glasses on and a tall glass of ice water. Want to know what else?  Patience . Isn't that a great word? It's my word for 2017 and the reason I was able to finally embrace the snail in me. That word kept shining brightly in my mind towards the end of December when I thought more about what I wanted for the upcoming year. Dieter F. Uchtdorf  said , "Indeed, patience is a purifying process that refines understanding, deepens happiness, focuses action, and offers hope for peace." Oh man, doesn't that sound dreamy? "A purifying process," I lov...

Christmas with Team Stay

Image
We learned that Jayce was actually going to have Christmas off, which I really hadn't let myself even imagine and we were so grateful. We joined forces with Team Stay for a few days. This one makes me chuckle. Pictures and Terry descendants! Lucy was Baymax for the duration of our stay and it was adorable. She'd stick her arms out like that with her palms facing forward and run. If you called her Lucy she'd correct you with, "No Baymax. I'm Baymax." Ben was Hiro to her and Jayce and I both swooned for a girl. Also, Lucy let me be her friend! Cookies for Santa. Santa really appreciated them. While Jack was eating a cookie he pointed to that piece and told Rebekah, "This one's for Santa." Coming from Jack, I think Santa got a bargain. We did a nativity play Christmas Eve, but somehow I missed getting pictures! The Stay's filmed it though. I was proud of all the boys for participating, especially Jac...

Santa, we know him.

Santa pictures are a must for us because I love comparing them every year! Pulling them out with the decorations always makes me laugh. And we have never had smiles in them. Maybe they're believers now.  Both Ben and Jack wanted "protocol droids" and Cameron surprisingly asked for a sticker book. Well, this year we also learned that Santa knows us better than we thought. We got letters from Santa in December and they were awesome! The return address was seriously the North Pole. There was no trace of who had done it which led me on a fun goose chase. They all had fun specifics in them and witty remarks that made me chuckle. For your viewing pleasure: And I think me and Jayce got gipped!  And I think she would have taken it to the grave if Burt hadn't chimed in:

Highs and Lows

I'm drowning. I'm several feet under water and I can see the light from the sun shining through the water. I just can't get to it. I feel like I'm swimming, but I never break through the surface. It doesn't make any sense. My body is just stuck three feet below the sunshine. I'm suffocating. I'm sitting in a corner looking at my whole world, feeling the weight of everything I'm doing and not doing and the needs that need to be met and I can feel my chest tightening under the pressure. I'm in an earthquake. I realize that the very foundation of the building I'm in has cracks. I'm in a room with a number of large stone pillars. Some of them are crumbling and rock and dust are falling all around me. I can only choose one pillar to hold up, so there I am holding onto the one I think is most important. Crouched on the floor with my arms around this one pillar, I watch the other pillars crack, crumble, or fall and I wonder what will be left whe...
