Camping out on Mount Timpanogos!

Jayce and I got to camp out on the top of Mount Timpanogos because he volunteers with T.E.R.T. every summer. (Timpanogos Emergency Response Team) There weren't too many hikers this weekend because it's still pretty snowy up there, so there wasn't too much action for the life savers. Jayce did get to help a couple of people out with blisters though! :-)

We started hiking around 6:30 or so..so it started to get dark before we made it to camp Friday night.

Saturday morning by camp. It was amazing up there.

This is when we hiked up to the base of the summit. The TERTS people set up down by the shelter at the bottom in case people get hurt on the ice pack when they slide down from the top. We spent most of the time talking to people as they came and went and playing Skip-bo. Good times.

This is what you must climb up to wrap around and get up to the summit. ALL THAT SNOW. We decided we'd come back another time to climb to the summit. Many people tried and turned around because it was so dangerous.

Mountain goats by our camp site!

The hike wasn't totally uneventful. On the way down we came to see that all of the "ice packs" that cover a few parts of the trail are starting melt much faster. If you've hiked Timp, you probably know what I'm talking about, but if you haven't, there are parts of the trail when you have to walk across a big patch of snow because it's covering the trail. All you have are other people's footprints to step into and if you slip your footing..you slide. I was pretty scared, the ice packs were my least favorite part going up and coming down. So, what happens to the one who is the most scared of the snow packs in the group? She slips and slides! Yup, I slid right off and landed on the rocks backpack and all, but luckily was able to stop myself from sliding too far down the rocky part. Luckily all I ended up with was the wits scared out of me, a few scrapes on my knees and arms, and a goose egg on my shin. Hopefully next time we go the snow will be completely off the trail. :-)
