Mammoth Medical Missions - Chiapas, Mexico 2015

Image
I(Jayce) traveled to Chiapas, Mexico in May with a group called Mammoth Medical Missions. The purpose of the group is to respond to disaster situations in need of medical help as a fast and light civilian forward surgical team. They are based out of Mammoth lakes, California. I'm extremely grateful to have crossed paths with this group. They are effective, efficient, and doing a lot of good wherever they go. TRAVELING My adventure began with a flight from Salt Lake City to the Mexico City airport, where I was then supposed to catch another flight to Tuxtla, Mexico. The flight went smooth. I arrived in Mexico city to meet a customs line the length and width of a football field for Non-Mexican citizens, while the Mexican citizen line was the length of a typical Walmart checkout line in midday. (Too bad I don't have dual citizenship) I wasn't too worried because it was a decent layover and no one around me seemed to concerned. I saw a few other people that I recognized...

Happy Birthday Cameron

Image
Cameron Lee  He turned four yesterday!  Oldest children tend to be the guinea pigs moms and dads try their new-found parenting methods on and that can be pretty rough sometimes. They are the ones that chip away at us first, with strong strokes in our refining process, at least in my experience thus far. That firstborn connection is sweet and strong though and I'm lucky to have it with Cameron. Here was our acrostic for Cameron this year: The crocodile cake thing. A few weeks ago we started talking to Cameron about how close his birthday was getting and he told me that he wanted a crocodile cake for his birthday. I don't know where that came from, but he was adamant about it and he consistently told us he wanted a crocodile cake for his fourth birthday. Animal explorer. Lately Cameron has been into Wild Kratts. It's a kids show where two brothers explore different creatures all over the world and it's just amped up his interest in animals. ...

Power of Moms Retreat

Image
The idea of deliberate motherhood . This is something that I love. It's something I've been pursuing for a long time. As part of some life goals I wrote in the back of my journal many years ago I wrote "be a great mom." I've now realized that being a deliberate mother is what's going to allow me to achieve that goal. In my opinion,  Power of Moms  is amazing. An online resource where you can read and listen to the voices of other real mothers who know just how exhausting, frustrating, fun, and beautiful motherhood is? And they're willing to share their successes for the benefit of others?? Looking at the never-ending road of motherhood ahead of me I say, "Yes, please!" Their podcasts rekindled my motherhood flame a few months ago and have been extremely instrumental in getting me out of a rut. When I realized they had their big annual retreat coming up in Park City I knew I had to go and Jayce was totally on board with making it possibl...

Snapshots of J&B's Birthday Celebration

Image
Cameron truly understands the meaning of chocolate and ice cream. They fell asleep with Aunt Tee's birthday cards. :) The first thing Jack said when he woke up was, "Shoes." He's pretty excited about his new sandals.

Jack & Ben's Birthdays

Image
We have two brand-spankin' new to 2 toddlers in our house! These boys keep us on our toes. They are both energetic, sweet, goofy, messy little boys. I almost have to remind myself that they are twins though because they are also so different. Benson Jeremy. The acrostic poem we made for him this year said:  B ody wrestler E ating machine N ose stuck in a book He loves wrestling with his brothers. I would actually say he loves it most when he's doing it to pester his brothers. He knows how to push their buttons and he toes that line with the sweetest little mischievous smile you can imagine.  He's also got this stubborn side which can be very not-so-funny in the moment, but it's something that Jayce and I can't help but laugh at later. Where does this come from?! Let's be honest, probably from me. Furrowed brows never looked so cute though. He is most definitely an eating machine. You know that scene in Cast Away when Tom Hanks FINA...

Bloopers

A couple of days before the boys birthdays I thought, "We need to take some cute pictures of the boys!" My sister-in-law is really good at this and I think it's a good birthday tradition.  Problem is, we just can't seem to figure out the picture thing. It's a mixture of Jayce and I just not having a single photographer bone in our bodies and our boys just wanting to be difficult when a camera is in front of them. However, the nice thing about pictures of kids is that if they aren't picture perfect they're still pretty funny. Here's to funny picture keepsakes. :-) For your viewing pleasure: our bloopers. "Who wants a muffin?!" Cameron: "Meee!!!!" Me: "Keep your arms down Cameron!" Cameron: Oops! Mixed messages, Mom. Probably one of my favorites: Squirrel! Hi Ben. Thank you airplane. Me: "Okay, put your arms around each ot...
