The Collective Dance Project
So, I thought I would explain more about this thing I'm doing called The Collective Dance Project.
Here's a link to their Facebook page too: http://www.facebook.com/collectivedanceproject
The Collective was started by Michelle Lapioli just recently in the fall. Basically it's the stay-at-home mom/love to dance for fun dream. We rotate giving each other classes, so there is no teacher cost, and then we all chip in a few bucks here and there to cover studio rental fees. Right now there is just one ballet class offered, but Michelle hopes to broaden the class spectrum when there is enough demand. That's the beauty of it, if you want a jazz class you can do a jazz class, if you want to just stick to ballet go for it. It can be whatever you want!
I went to the first class just to check it out after Michelle told me about what she was starting, but once I came out of the class I was all jazzed about looking into grants, looking for performance opportunities, being able to take a low-key/for-fun ballet class every week, and even thinking long term about one day opening another chapter wherever we end up for med school if it's not Utah. The ideas were endless, I got that jazzed about it. It was the answer to a prayer I didn't even know I was praying. I really hadn't realized how much I missed taking ballet class.
I have my outlet every week now. I can go to my Saturday ballet class for just a few dollars, bond with the girls, stay in shape, get all sweaty and energized, and not feel any pressure about how well I'm doing the steps or what my body looks like in the mirror. It's GREAT. Plus, an opportunity came up for us to perform and we took it! As of last weekend The Collective had their first performance at Provo High. :-) We have now had another offer to perform again sometime in the spring. Ahhhh, this feels good.
Here are some of the fine ladies in The Collective:
