Dory Hill Camping

We took Cam Bam camping for the first time this weekend with some of our friends. It was about an hour and a half away, but so worth it to be in the mountains. They were beautiful! However, Provo Canyon spoiled me with it's straight roads. The last 9 miles of the trip was super twisty and curvy because the road was further up the mountain and hugged it's side. Not a match made in heaven for a motion sick lady. Sadly, I have passed on my car sickness to Cam too because he threw up all over himself about 10 minutes before we reached the campsite. Poor boy!

We all arrived and started setting up camp when a torrential downpour sprang up on us. Rain, hale, coldness. I was a little worried about how successful this trip was going to be to say the least. (What if it does this all night? What if we can't start a fire to cook our tinfoil dinner? Does this place do refunds?) The boys were champs though, they finished setting up the tents and everything while the girls took refuge in the cars with the kids.

It lasted for 10 minutes or so and then everything lightened up a bit again. But what does a torrential downpour in the mountains leave behind everywhere? Puddles. Lots of puddles. And kids love puddles.

"Cameron, we can't splash in these puddles right now."

Pure anguish.

I gave in eventually.

(Chocolate or poop?! Chocolateee...!) ;-)

All the water led to a hard time in the bathroom trying to dry off.
(Luckily we had bathrooms, right?! It was great for this trip.)

There was a lot of exploring from these munchkins, and their saga continues ;-)

Building a fire took some creativity, but our mountain men came through again!

And of course there were mallows:

That night we all comfortably fit in the Valantine's tent because it was practically the Taj Mahal. ;-) We let the kiddos work out their energy until they were ready for bed and then put them down in our tent while the adults played games. It worked out really well! And apparently I'm really good at The Game of Things...finally! Haha.

The night actually went pretty well except for the wind. It was super windy and woke me up constantly. It felt like I woke up every hour or so. I'd check Cameron in the pack n' play to make sure he was still warm enough (He always was thank goodness. That boy slept like a rock!) and then try to fall asleep quick enough that the wind wouldn't keep me up.

Our morning faces:
I'll take all the sleep I can get!

Haha, bright eyed and bushy tailed upon waking up.

Our "looks great, but tastes like smoke" breakfast! What a bummer that was!
Still worth the trip though. :-)

Smoke in face.

  1. That looks like fun!! So I was a little shocked when reading your post and came across the Valantines. Brandon was a good friend of mine before the mission. Small world :)
