The Draft Horse Show
We went to Young Living's Draft Horse Show just south of us in Mona two Saturday's ago with the Astle's. It was great, I don't know how more people don't know about it! The horse show part reminded me a lot of the dog show that comes on every Thanksgiving after the Macy's parade and although we had fun watching the beautiful horses and carriages go in and out of the arena, we never actually sat down in there to watch it. I don't think the boys would have lasted long for that part.
Some of the horses we saw going into the arena. They really were beautiful.
Besides the 4 1/2 hour horse show, there were plenty of other things to keep the boys entertained. Bounce houses, pony rides, knights, jousting, a western shoot out, hay rides, there was a lot of fun stuff there.
We did the pony rides twice. Both times Jack went on and on about wanting to ride pony's up until I was trying to get him to mount one and then he held onto me with a death grip and yelled, "NO! NO!" Oh Jack. :-)
Cameron rode them both times even though it makes him really nervous. The second time he even let me stay with Benson instead of standing next to him. That was big for him.
Brave Ben let this boy in the orange shirt hoist him onto a pony right off the bat and didn't even bat an eyelash at the thought that I wasn't near him.
Second time:
Speaking of Brave Ben, he also got asked to come sit on the "horse couch" by this horse trainer. Apparently this horse is "famous" and "in movies" and the grandson of Black Beauty. He's been trained to do a lot of tricks.
I put this one up because you can see the horse trainer's amazing mustache a little better! Two perfectly curled ends.
Jody and Annie on the horse couch:
My favorite part was the jousting and I'm pretty sure I was giddier about it than the boys. They gave each section of bleachers a color and we were to cheer for our color of knight and you better believe Annie and I whooped and hollered for the Blue Knight. There was a black knight as well and he played his character very well, making fun of the other knights, making faces at the green and blue sections, boasting, etc. It was great. The knights were also given roses a couple of times that they were to give to a lady in their section. The knights normally chose little girls or old ladies and it was really cute.
I was wondering how they were going to joust without killing each other.
Two young boys went first before the knights came out and they had styrofoam tips. Brilliant!
(Note the Star Wars music)
The other knights really did have some sort of wood, because it splintered and everything when they hit each other but it must be really soft wood.
They had a couple of jail cells in one of the buildings in the western area.
I had my first "my child is lost" moment in that stinking area. There was a row of western-looking buildings and the kids had fun going in and out of them. I was monitoring the kids from the front and keeping track of who was where, but little did I know there were back doors in each compartment. After realizing Ben was not in any of the little buildings anymore, Annie stayed with the other kids while I began searching the surrounding area just praying that I could count on us being at a family event in Utah and someone kind would find him and help him return to me. After a couple of minutes of frantically searching that prayer was answered and a woman was walking around with him after seeing him wandering by the fairy area. Ugh. Talk about worst fears.
Safe at last and on the hay ride. I kept a tighter grip after that.
