Spencer Update

Image
This delicious boy is growing fast. The holidays are going to come and go and he'll soon be diving into his second year of life! I feel like I was just in the delivery room sometimes. He loves food. People have teased me that I wouldn't need to sweep if I had a dog and now I'm like, "Don't need one, I've got a Spencer." He often crawls into the kitchen and I find him under the table searching for scraps. If he sees you eating something from a distance he books it over and starts whining.  He also loves being held. I try not to make eye contact with him when he's playing contentedly on the floor because when I do he almost always gets a big grin, then starts crawling over and whimpering. It's adorable but my back is feeling a little low about it. He seems to be a little more on the snuggly side, at least for one of our babies. Jayce and I both adore his snuggles when they come. There's just something about those cherub cheeks restin...

Halloween Day 2016

Image
Halloween was the day after we got home from Florida. The best part was laying on a blanket outside  and soaking in Fall while Jack and Ben played in the dirt and ran around doing the great things boys should do outside.  We had red pepper soup for dinner because it was orange and out of a carton from Costco, which made it an obvious choice for the evening in my book. We ended up loading the boys in the car to go trick-or-treating in another neighborhood because there wasn't too much happening on our street. The one we went to was pretty fun. A lot of people decked out for Halloween. It was frustrating here and there as most Halloween experiences seem to be for us, but I'm glad that the boys really loved being their Star Wars characters. Jack and Ben were the cutest Storm Troopers around and I get a kick out of watching the boys trick-or-treat each year. Ben doesn't get deterred from the scary decorations. He gave a woman in costume with her face painted like a ...

More From Florida

The rest of our time in Florida was just as great. The day after Universal Studios we said good bye to the Porter's and then headed to the beach with the Nardone's. I love the beach. It soothes my soul. I love watching the kids play at the beach too. They get braver and braver in the water every time we go and they love the sand and shell collecting. It's just a big win for our family. This super woman had house guests as she was dealing with the selling of her house and gearing up for an out-of-state move. And she did it with grace. Sad that we just got out to the east and they've just barely (like this week) moved further west! He was being a sand monster. Man I love seeing these kids play with all of their cousins. After our time at the beach we rushed home to go to Lindsey and Josh's trunk-or-treat (which Lindsey was partly in charge of). It worked out perfectly for us because we were missing our ward's trunk-or-trea...

Harry Potter World

Image
It just so happened that one of Jayce's three weeks off this year lined up with his parent's plans to be in Florida with Jayce's fresh-off-the-mission brother, David. It was a really short trip, but well worth the drive. Enjoying Jayce's time off at home is nice, but there's something about quick, quality excursions that really seems to hit the spot for us right now. I feel lucky that we've been able to do a camping trip, Florida, and a couple of day trips in the last few months. We enjoyed some family time sitting around and talking and it was great to see the cousins together. One of the highlights was going to the one and only HARRY POTTER WORLD. It was supposed to be me, Jayce, Dad Porter, and David, but David woke up sick the morning of. We already had non-refundable tickets. We felt really awful going with out him (for reals) because that was supposed to be our one day with Dave, but what can you do? Go there for your honeymoon one day David. ;-) Other...

Fall Visitors

By the end of of the year, all but three relatives on the Terry side will have been to our house. It has been fantastic. We recently got to enjoy some Stay time and Aunt Tee time. Rebekah and her kids came down first for a short weekend trip. My two favorite things were: 1. Talking to Rebekah into the wee hours. Jayce came home at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning to find us still up.  2. Seeing the cousins play. My kids are lucky to have so many great cousins on both sides of the family. Playing in the backyard. The boys showed them the "factory" they "work" in under the deck. They were out there for a while playing in the dirt and collecting acorns to put in the factory for the squirrels. I love this picture. It's also fitting for them because a few hours later they were playing in that exact same spot when they came across some ground wasps (Who knew those were a thing?? Not me.) and got stung. More on that to come. Lady Lucy. I realized on t...
