Overheard at the Porter's Lately...

"Mom's got the vacuum! Run for your lives!!!"
-Jack



In reference to a crock pot cauliflower curry I tried out...
Cam: "Mom, I want to put more Bar-B-Q sauce on it."
Me: "Cameron, there's already Bar-B-Q sauce all over it."
Cam: "I know, but it's just still terrible!"



At least once a week this month and a couple of times in March if I remember correctly, some version of this...
Jack: "Mom, how old am I?"
Me: "You're three."
Jack: "Aw, three still??! I hate that!"



Talking about the Little Kids First Big Book of Why because it was our new reading time book...
Cam: "Yeah, this book talks about animals and plants and how hot air balloons stay in the air, and about nutritional snacks!"
His enthusiasm was contagious. And it's comical that he mentioned nutritional snacks, especially because there's a picture of a donut on the front cover!



The boys get a special birthday date during their birthday month. We decided that Jayce would take Jack and I would take Ben this time around. However, when I was out playing catch with Ben in the yard this afternoon and he was just being so adorable and funny I thought, "Jayce has to see this." So I leaned over to Ben and looked him in the eye and said, "Ben, do you want Mommy or Daddy to take you on your date this Friday?" Ben got a pondering look on his face and then said, "Well...I'm thinking I want to go with my Daddy because he's the best Dad ever." My heart melted. Jayce needs to take him!

Welcome to the World Aiden Titus

Something big arrived in the Porter Family early in the morning on September 29! He's big, he's blonde, and he has kisses all over his chunky cheeks...welcome to the world Aiden Titus Porter!  He was my second largest baby weighing in at 8 lb 10 oz, his abundance of blonde hair is reminiscent of Cameron, he's the 17th grandchild on the Porter side and the 14th on the Terry side and he came into the world fast and furious like his next-older brother, Spencer. He also completes the Porter basketball team. Summer Olympics 2032, here we come! Mom's Gone

My Mom died in the early hours of June 29 of complications from pneumonia. She was one month shy of her 67 th birthday. I’ll be processing everything from the morning of her death to the day she was buried for a long time. I’m so grateful that I was able to talk to my mom just two days before she passed. I had sat down at my computer after rocking Spencer to sleep and it was quiet time in the Porter house. My mind went blank as soon as I sat down and I relaxed, which is abnormal because I usually feel torn between doing ten things at once when I sit down to “get stuff done” during quiet time. So I thought, “Well, what should I do? It’s been a while since I talked to Mom...” When I asked her how she was she answered, “Well, actually not so good,” and she explained that she had just come home from the doctor’s office where she found out that she had pneumonia.   She filled me in on some details from her appointment and how she had been feeling recently.
