Terry Talent Show

If you've debated having a talent show at your next reunion, I'm here to tell you it's worth it! This was my favorite thing that we all did together at the Terry Family reunion.

There was some teetering back and forth as to wether or not we should do it and there were several "Everyone's participating, right? I'm not the only one making a fool out of myself, right??" moments, but the enduring drive to keep it on the calendar paid off. (And Jayce and I might have paid our kids to participate...)

In case you're thinking, "Talent shows are for those families who have instrumental child prodigies, or who can put on a 2 act musical to near Broadway perfection!" Well, you're right. They are for those families. But they are also for anybody with talents, and guess what? We all have those! That excuse can't bail you out. Do some digging, think outside the box, and have fun. It worked for us.

Terry talents:

Lady Lucy twirling:

We all went out on the deck to watch the swimmers:
Hi Jonny. Can you fit in my pocket?

James doing butterfly. Impressive, right??

Uncle David being an excellent announcer. He can also claim the talent of being the most loved on by Spencer that day.

I did some caramel apples.

No joke, they were the ugliest I have ever made! It was due to lack of time, materials, and my overall will to make them beautiful, but they were delicious!

The Stay's singing us a public service announcement on peeing in the pool. So good!

Kathryn wrote and performed a skit similar to one done by Studio C.

It was this funny:

Uncle Ken did some math magic in which he showed us just how much we all have in common. A man of many talents, I think it's fair to say that playing "Watch Ya Mouth" is also one of them.

Burt demonstrated working out with Henry.

Mommers and Dad shared their talent of travel with us by putting together a slide show of their cruise in Europe last Fall.

Cameron shared a magic trick:

Ben quoted Martin Luther King, Jr.

Clara shared how she makes her eggs in the morning. So cute!

Aunt Rachel read us a book because she's the best Gwilliam book reader according to Henry.

Jack entered a work of art, which he "let" Jayce display:

And Aunt Tee did a darling skit with several of the kids.

I loved the talent show. Plus, it was nice for our kids to appreciate the talents of their cousins. As we were starting to walk back inside after watching James and Jonny swimming Ben looked up at me and said, "I'm going to swim like that someday!" On the way home from the trip Cameron said from the back of the car, "Clara was in First Grade and she learned how to make eggs for breakfast and I'm going to be in the First Grade next year so I think I can learn how to make eggs for breakfast!" The night was a win-win-win in my book.
