Halloween at the Porter's

Image
We had a great Halloween! The boys totally surprised me with how much they enjoyed being in costume. Benson and Jackson both HATE wearing hats. Benson will tolerate them for a little bit longer than Jack if you make him smile right after you put it on, but with Jack it's an instant fit until he can get the hat off. They not only kept their hats on, but were reluctant to let us take them off at the end of night. Total score! Maybe these are their new winter hats? They were Mario, Luigi, and Toadstool from Mario Brothers. The beginning of the day was pretty normal, but after lunch we went down to the elementary school to watch some of the neighborhood kids in their Halloween parade. It made me excited to reach that phase of life and Cam really enjoyed it. Then during dinner these guys showed up. :)  Having Grammy and Grampy over for Halloween festivities was great. We'll soak up all the family time we can get while we're in Utah because who knows where we...

Jaker's Pumpkin Patch

Image
One of my med school wife friends came down from Idaho for the week, so we all met up at the pumpkin patch to celebrate. It also fit right in with an activity that we had planned with Cameron's pre-school group, so it was just a big pumpkin patch party! Lots of kids, lots of friends, and lots of love. These cute kids really loved the animals. They had small pigs, an enormous beast of a pig, chickens, goats, and a kangaroo. Don't ask me what a kangaroo was doing in Springville, Utah at a pumpkin patch, but it was pretty sweet! Benson was all over trying to pet the animals. Cameron would never have done that and Jack just wasn't that interested. It's amazing how different they all are! And Cam was really into Lilly. Not much has changed there! They had the biggest corn pit I've ever seen and the kids totally loved it. And we polished it all off with a hay ride.

Quality Family Time

The last couple of weeks have felt really relaxed thanks to how Jayce's schedule has turned out and it has been awesome. Last week he didn't have to go in to work at all because the surgeon he was rotating with took the week off. Not like Jayce got to party hard or anything because he was pretty much downstairs studying all day, but there is just something calming about having him in the house with us. He comes up and plays with the boys during his breaks, he eats lunch with us, and I get to go for runs while the boys are napping. Wins all around. This guy makes life good. Some of the things we've done to take advantage of his free time have been going to the pumpkin patch and getting some seasonal treats from the Red Barn. Have I mentioned how much we like the Red Barn?

BYU and Aunt Jessie

Image
We had a great time with my in-laws at the BYU Homecoming parade last week. The marching band, the dance teams, the schools of study, Theatre Ballet (I hollered the loudest!)…oh man, it was a good BYU fill. Is it ridiculous that sometimes I get teary eyed at parades? I think it's because there are people walking by who worked hard to be where they are and everyone is cheering them on. Somebody get me some kleenex. Go cougs! This beauty queen crossed the last parade off her list in a long list of Utah County summer parades. We're really big fans. Aunt Jessie even spent the night this weekend. She's most definitely in the rankings of one of the best women I know. And all you eligible bachelors in Utah County, she's yours for the sweeping off of feet.

Grotto Hike

Image
My med school wife friends and I still like to get together once a week for some sort of play date and this week it was a short hike up to a small waterfall in Payson Canyon. It was beautiful up there and Cameron had a great time running all over the trail with his friends. I however have to admit that I was really grumpy that day. You can't tell from the pics, but I was. That's the beauty of a picture, right? Luckily these girls are great friends that know me well and like me for the good and the bad! Again lovely ladies…so sorry! I just didn't think to bring some sort of a baby carrier for some reason (what was I thinking?) and I thought that Ben and Jack would want to walk more of it than they did so then I was carrying them, then my awesome friends were carrying them (along with taking care of their own kids--I was just that needy mom that day) and I was just all sorts of grumpy about it. The kids loved it, but I need a re-do.
