Mother's Day

She Says: As I have gotten older I have come to appreciate Mother's Day more and more. Probably because I've matured just enough to skim the surface of understanding what it really takes to be a mother and because I'm coming closer and closer to becoming a mother myself. To me it has sort of turned into a international woman's day. :-) It's like a celebration of womanhood. You don't have to be a mother yet to have motherly attributes. Every woman has the capacity to nurture and the potential to create. In the words of President Gordon B. Hinckley, "You are creatures of divinity; you are daughters of the Almighty. Limitless is your potential. Magnificent is your future, if you will take control of it."
For example, this is my mom:
Lorie Ann Buchholz Terry. I celebrate her today because she has done so much for me throughout my life (more than I know, I'm sure). She has sacrificed a great deal for me while I was growing up: dealing with my teenage mood swings, shuttling me back and forth between school, church, and the dance studio, always providing for me, teaching me the importance of knowledge, educating me, building me up when I was knocked down, pushing me forward to reach for my potential, and so much more. I am so so so grateful for her! Where would I be without my mother? Who knows? I just hope that she can look at the outcome and be happy. :-) Love you Mom!

He Says: I thought I would mention a little more on what sarah said about Mother's in regards to sacrifice. (Bytheway, I love this topic; i.e. Sacrifice, and plan on writing a book on it someday...so stay tuned;) It has been said that a mother has to travel through the valley of death in order to bring life to their child. Is it any wonder then why mother's have some of the strongest bonds of love for their children? In the process of sacrificing all of their physical energy and perhaps death in order to bring new life into the world, they seem to be endowed with a part of the unfailing love which the Savior obtained for us as a result of him sacrificing His all. This love comes at a significant price. Not only does it require the labors of birth for a mother, but staying up late waiting for your children when they are out, caring for them when they are sick, and the list goes on.
My mother has been blessed with this love of the Savior, and she has definitely paid the price for it after all of her kids. ;) What a wonderful time to be grateful for our Mothers. Hopefully we can all show this a little more often, me especially. Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there!

On a side note: My fabulous husband gave me two pairs of legit running socks for Mother's Day!!! I got a blister Saturday running my first 7 miler, so he made a stop on his way home from volunteering at the hospital. What a gem. :-)
