Mom and Dad Highlights

Jayce Face latest and greatest: Jayce has done psychiatry and surgery rotations so far this school year. Both have been great learning opportunities, especially surgery. He actually came upstairs from studying one day and said, "I just love what I'm learning now!" and then proceeded to tell me all about the connections he has been able to make between his books and the hands on work he has seen/participated in at the hospitals.  It's one thing to read about a certain body malfunction and another thing to witness it first hand. He gets to see things from the beginning when patients come in to consult the surgeon about something all the way through to their recovery process after the surgeon has taken care of business. Plus he has participated along the way. Not only is it rewarding for him, but it is rewarding for me to see that he is putting so much energy into something that he truly loves. And really, I like a guy in scrubs. Jayce also had the opp...

Spring Break

Image
Sooo, we had a fantastic spring break last week. We had debated traveling somewhere, but in the end we decided to stay put and add a little extra money to our "fun" budget for the month. We loaded up the week with local family fun activities and it was sooo nice. Even the weather cooperated, giving us a couple of absolutely beautiful days! Man, what a good week. On Monday we slept in a little and ate waffles when we all woke up. Ahhh... :-) Jayce went out to get some car stuff taken care of in the afternoon and while he was gone I set up our 2-man tent in the living room. When Jayce got home we spent the evening in the tent reading to Cameron and watching "Once Upon a Time". We were hoping Cam would fall asleep in there so that we could snuggle with him while we watched, but alas there was just too much fun to be had. After playing a bit more we put him down in his room and then came back out to enjoy some s'mores. Cruel, right? Jayce and I didn't sleep in...

Med Wives Run

Image
A few months before moving to Colorado Jayce's classmates were all introducing themselves on their Facebook class group. One guy said that he had a wife and a 3 month old and that his wife was excited to meet other wives and get into the social scene once they moved. Of course Jayce and I pounced and Jayce commented on his post and said that he had a wife and a little boy too and that his wife would love to meet his. So, Steve sent Jayce Maria's email and we emailed back and forth a bit before we even met here in Colorado. And thus my friendship with Maria Long began! :-) One thing that we emailed about was running. My goal is to do some sort of run after each kid, and I needed a buddy to do it with so that I would stay motivated. We ended up getting a small group of people interested in putting on our own 5k and half marathon. No entrance fees, low key...it was great! We tie-dyed shirts a few nights before the run. Some people couldn't make it last minute, so we only ...

Jayce's Commissioning

Image
Jayce is officially a lieutenant in the Air Force. After a year of ups and downs with the application process, he is finally in! There was so much paperwork, some of it even had to be re-done several times because they lost it, he has been through several recruiters, he was officially denied because they thought he might have a knee injury, we had to get our congressman in Utah to write a letter to the Air Force Surgeon General, he got a medical waiver for his knee, he got officially denied after they re-submitted his paperwork with the waiver, we thought it was game over until almost a month later his recruiter called out of the blue to let him know that he was #2 on the waiting list for the 4-year scholarship, more waiting, and then he finally gets offered the scholarship! Of course it didn't end there though...then they had lost more of his paperwork which he then had to resubmit all over again, THEN I put his contract in the USPS mail not realizing I needed to put the envelope...

Dory Hill Camping

We took Cam Bam camping for the first time this weekend with some of our friends. It was about an hour and a half away, but so worth it to be in the mountains. They were beautiful! However, Provo Canyon spoiled me with it's straight roads. The last 9 miles of the trip was super twisty and curvy because the road was further up the mountain and hugged it's side. Not a match made in heaven for a motion sick lady. Sadly, I have passed on my car sickness to Cam too because he threw up all over himself about 10 minutes before we reached the campsite. Poor boy! We all arrived and started setting up camp when a torrential downpour sprang up on us. Rain, hale, coldness. I was a little worried about how successful this trip was going to be to say the least. (What if it does this all night? What if we can't start a fire to cook our tinfoil dinner? Does this place do refunds?) The boys were champs though, they finished setting up the tents and everything while the girls took r...
