Ode to the Grammy's

This much I know: Jayce and I owe Grammy Porter and Grammy Terry HUGE thanks!

Jayce's mom came out for almost a month at the drop of a hat while I was on bed rest to help out with Cameron and then came a second time for another 10 days to help out with all three boys once we got home from the hospital. She is rightly nick-named the "Energizer Bunny" in Jayce's family because she really does just keep going and going and going and going. Seriously, you've got to see this woman in action. It's quite remarkable.

A couple of days after her departure my mom arrived. Amidst Virginia's S.O.L. school testing, creating lesson plans for substitute teachers, the beginnings of wedding planning for my sister, and wrapping up the end of another year teaching 4th grade she was able to come out for 10 days and help me handle the adjustment too. Not to mention the day she got here I got some sort of flu bug, so she was really thrown right into the action taking care of me and the three boys so that Jayce could study.

They both allowed Jayce and I to get out on dates by watching all three kids, and they both allowed me to learn how to go to and from home with all three of the wee babes. It was so nice for all of us to get out of the house here and there and feel normal. I definitely took advantage of that. Jayce also owes them his sleep since they took on his diaper changing duties at night so that he could be a little more rested for school. Cameron loved playing with both of them as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you Grammy's!!! We love your guts!!!

Spencer's Birth Story

After those last days of trying my hardest to push away the heightening anticipation of Spencer's arrival, he finally arrived two weeks ago today! Now those days seem so far away. It's amazing how quickly the tables turn. Your life seems to be building up to one particular moment for so long and then all of a sudden you're on the other side of that moment and it's like life has never been any different. Here is the last "belly picture" I took before his arrival and I only thought about it because my parents had requested one. The difference between the first and the fourth kid I guess. Mom's Gone

My Mom died in the early hours of June 29 of complications from pneumonia. She was one month shy of her 67 th birthday. I’ll be processing everything from the morning of her death to the day she was buried for a long time. I’m so grateful that I was able to talk to my mom just two days before she passed. I had sat down at my computer after rocking Spencer to sleep and it was quiet time in the Porter house. My mind went blank as soon as I sat down and I relaxed, which is abnormal because I usually feel torn between doing ten things at once when I sit down to “get stuff done” during quiet time. So I thought, “Well, what should I do? It’s been a while since I talked to Mom...” When I asked her how she was she answered, “Well, actually not so good,” and she explained that she had just come home from the doctor’s office where she found out that she had pneumonia.   She filled me in on some details from her appointment and how she had been feeling recently.
