Georgia On My Mind

Well, we finally know where we are going to spend the next three years of our lives!

Georgia! It was our top choice and we couldn't be happier about it. Jayce loved the program, the people, and the area when he went out to interview. Other than that he just had a great gut feeling about it, which pushed it to the top of the list. Out of the 8 locations he interviewed, Georgia was one of two places he went where upon walking out of his interview he couldn't wait to call me and tell me all about it.

I won't lie, once I learned that it was about 8 hours from my VA family, 4 hours from my sister in NC, and about 8 from my sister-in-law's family in FL I was pretty excited about it. I tried really hard to suppress my hopes just in case, but it was too hard. I would have needed to mentally adjust to matching somewhere else. This is the first time since fall of 2007 when I started college that I will live within driving distance of my east coast family!

Speaking of family, everyone was excited to hear the news on match day. I got a number of texts from friends and family checking in to see if we had matched on match day and it made us feel really loved.

The annoying thing was that we didn't find out when everyone else did! Jayce had to work that day and I was dying for him to be done! Originally we wanted to meet for lunch to open the email together, but his doctor wanted to work straight through lunch. Kill me why don't you! Who does that?! We didn't open the email until 3:00 or so. Our medical school friends found out hours before us, it was brutal before me! We had agreed to open it together though and I wanted that special moment.

One of my sisters sent me this and it cracked me up:

So, we met at a park near out house to open it together and process it before telling everyone. Jayce was shaking and we looked at the email anxiously line by line until we got to the goods. We both yelled when he said Georgia. Ahhhh!!! It was a great day. We were on cloud 9.

We celebrated by taking the boys to see Zootopia. (We almost never pay full price to see movies in the theaters, let alone with all the kids. It was a real treat for them.) It was Jack and Ben's first time seeing a movie in a movie theater and they loved it.

Wanna see some shots of Georgia?

Mmm...the south is calling.

The Masters. Never heard of it until a few weeks ago, but now we're excited to rent our house out and make a little extra cash during the event. And I guess it's cool that Tiger Woods will be in the neighborhood once a year.

I can't count how many times the boys have watched this Jonathan Bird clip, but needless to say I'm really excited to take them to the Georgia Aquarium at some point while we are there. WHALE SHARKS.
