Benson Turns 3

This little darling just turned 3.

Here's the run down on this shiny new 3-year-old:

  • He's got a lot of spunk packed into his cute little body.
  • He is very social. He'll talk your ear off if you let him, and often even when you're trying not to let him too. If he has been trying to get your attention away from someone else who is talking to you he'll put his hands on your cheeks and turn your face until you're looking him right in the eye and then he'll proceed to tell you all about what's on his mind. He loves talking to my other mom friends too. He'll chime into my conversations and say, "Mommy, I gotta tell Annie something," and so he does!
  • He's weighing in at 32 lbs and he's 36.75 inches tall.
  • His favorite color is blue.
  • His favorite movie is Big Hero 6 because "it has one bad guy in it."
  • His favorite snack is crackers and his favorite meal is oatmeal.
  • His favorite book of the moment is Bammy's construction truck book.
  • His favorite game is Hoot Owl Hoot.
  • His favorite thing to do outside is "play baseball on the trampoline."
  • When he grows up he wants to be "Captain Da-merica."
  • He is adventurous! He tends to be the first to volunteer for the unknown. Brave boy.
  • He's got funny chipmunk laugh that keeps Jayce and I very entertained.
  • Ben climbs on us like a little monkey, especially Jayce because Jayce will let him climb all over and then throw him up in the air, which Ben loves.



This sweet boy adds all kinds of entertainment to our days. I can't imagine the family without him. Love you Benny-Boo!

Spencer's Birth Story

After those last days of trying my hardest to push away the heightening anticipation of Spencer's arrival, he finally arrived two weeks ago today! Now those days seem so far away. It's amazing how quickly the tables turn. Your life seems to be building up to one particular moment for so long and then all of a sudden you're on the other side of that moment and it's like life has never been any different. Here is the last "belly picture" I took before his arrival and I only thought about it because my parents had requested one. The difference between the first and the fourth kid I guess. Mom's Gone

My Mom died in the early hours of June 29 of complications from pneumonia. She was one month shy of her 67 th birthday. I’ll be processing everything from the morning of her death to the day she was buried for a long time. I’m so grateful that I was able to talk to my mom just two days before she passed. I had sat down at my computer after rocking Spencer to sleep and it was quiet time in the Porter house. My mind went blank as soon as I sat down and I relaxed, which is abnormal because I usually feel torn between doing ten things at once when I sit down to “get stuff done” during quiet time. So I thought, “Well, what should I do? It’s been a while since I talked to Mom...” When I asked her how she was she answered, “Well, actually not so good,” and she explained that she had just come home from the doctor’s office where she found out that she had pneumonia.   She filled me in on some details from her appointment and how she had been feeling recently.
