Observations from Lord of the Rings
So, Jayce and I had a Lord of the Rings movie marathon a few weeks back and I just want to tell you now to buckle up for some profound thoughts on the experience. This shouldn't be shocking to anyone, you know what I am. Just in case though, this is me sounding the official nerd alert.
1. In my opinion, who gets the "Best All Around" award in the Fellowship? Easy.
Samwise.
I remember watching The Fellowship of the Ring at home with my Dad in high school and after the scene where Frodo saves Sam from drowning because Sam refused to leave Frodo's side my Dad said something like, "I just love these movies! I guess it's because of the strong theme of male bonding and brotherhood." Love you Dad! I remember that every time I watch them.
A few favorite Samwise moments...
You're all suddenly filled with a renewed sense of loyalty and determination, right? I think we can all agree that "Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam."
2. Whenever I see this guy:
I am reminded of the first time I saw this movie in the theater and my friend, Kelly, leaned over to me and said, "Sarah, I didn't know you were in this!"
And also that I'm still a solid six or seven years from watching this with any of my boys. Nightmares of "MANFLESH!!!" anyone?
3. If I could be anyone in the movie, I'd be:
Aragorn. He's a BOSS, right? Like ten orcs die every time he even touches his sword. And he's got that great inner struggle of whether or not he will succumb to the power of the ring if given the chance thing going on. Will he face his destiny or remain safely hidden from view? So many good sub themes in this series.
Legolas is a close second though. He made archery and braids look cool before Katniss Everdeen was dreamed of.
4. But in reality, which character am I most like?
Treebeard.
It's hard to explain guys, but I am Treebeard. It has something to do with his conversation with Merry when he explains, "It takes a long time to say anything in Old Entish, and we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to say." It takes me a long time to label and then communicate my thoughts well. So, I would revise his statement to say, "It takes a long time to think anything in Sarah, and I never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to think."
5. But when I'm pregnant, I'm definitely most like Pippin.
6. My favorite ending in Return of the King, because really, it feels like it's going to end about five times.
5. Hardest scene to watch.
I would say the battle at Minas Tirith, but I don't watch it. When those first riders go out with Boromir's brother...nope, can't do it.
The hardest to actually watch is when Frodo tells Sam to go away.
My heart breaks a little every time!
I do quiet enjoy watching these every couple of years. Classic good vs. evil. I echo Gimli, "Certainty of death, small chance of success...What are we waiting for?!" Well, there you have it. Glad I got that off my chest.
And remember guys...
