Ode to the Grammy's

Image
This much I know: Jayce and I owe Grammy Porter and Grammy Terry HUGE thanks! Jayce's mom came out for almost a month at the drop of a hat while I was on bed rest to help out with Cameron and then came a second time for another 10 days to help out with all three boys once we got home from the hospital. She is rightly nick-named the "Energizer Bunny" in Jayce's family because she really does just keep going and going and going and going. Seriously, you've got to see this woman in action. It's quite remarkable. A couple of days after her departure my mom arrived. Amidst Virginia's S.O.L. school testing, creating lesson plans for substitute teachers, the beginnings of wedding planning for my sister, and wrapping up the end of another year teaching 4th grade she was able to come out for 10 days and help me handle the adjustment too. Not to mention the day she got here I got some sort of flu bug, so she was really thrown right into the action taking ca...

Jack and Ben at Home

What can I say? Their mom is still waiting for her invitation to Hogwarts via owl. Jackson:   Benson:

April 30th...so here's how it went down.

I had officially hit 37 weeks that day and I had been off of bed rest and Procardia (the pill I was on to stop my pre-term contractions) for a week. Nothing had been going on in the contraction realm, so I felt pretty confident that I would make it to 38 weeks when they would just give me a c-section. My morning consisted of taking Cameron to story time at the library, then to the park for an hour or so. Then we went home and packed lunches so that we could go eat with Jayce at school. He was really busy studying for some major tests he had at the end of the week, so we thought eating lunch with him would brighten his day. (Of course I go into labor a few days before his tests and a few days after Mom Porter leaves, right??) I had been feeling some cramping on and off all day, but that wasn't super uncommon so I didn't think much of it until lunch time when they started to get a little more intense. Jayce and I thought it would be a good idea to go home, put Cameron do...

Hospital Time with the Twins

Image
I was so fortunate to deliver at Sky Ride and have a really great hospital experience. The nurses were wonderful, and nurses can make or break a hospital experience, so I felt lucky. They adored Jackson and Benson. Two sweet nurses even came down to my room one evening to ask if they could take the twins for a little while just to hold them at the nurse desk because they thought they were so darling. They gave me a glimpse into how much they really love their jobs in the mom and baby unit. They took the boys and I walked up and down the hall for a while. They encouraged me to walk to help with the healing process. It was fun to watch the nurses soak in my fresh babies from a distance and show them off to the few people that passed by their desk. They couldn't believe how healthy they were and repeatedly told me that I had given birth to superstars. Another HUGE blessing was the help that I received from the ward. Jayce spent the first night with me, but wasn't able to ...

Bed Rest

Well, it has been a week and a half since I got checked into the hospital and luckily I am now home! I went in on a Wednesday, and on Friday I had real hopes that I would get to go home and be with Jayce and Cameron. I was crushed when the nurses told me I wasn't going to be released that night and saying good bye to Jayce was really hard. I was all sorts of emotional. Cameron had spent Wednesday and Thursday night at the Nardone's (another HUGE blessing for us) but now he was going home with Jayce and I wanted to be with them at home too. Me being so upset made Jayce really sad too and before you know it we were both crying. It was a bitter sweet moment for us. As he walked by the nurses station on his way out he told the charge nurse to take good care of me and that I was having a hard time. I could tell he must have said something because she came into my room a few minutes later and sat down next to my bed and talked to me for a while. She was really kind. After that I co...

The Hospital

So, I started my NST's (Non-Stress Test's) this week since it was my 32 week mark. In a "high risk" pregnancy, they want you to go in twice a week every week starting at 32 weeks to have NST's. They strap fetal monitors to your belly so that they can monitor both of the babies' heart rates for a while and see check for contractions. I went in on Monday and was having some pretty regular contractions, but they gave me an ultra sound and decided that nothing significant was happening and let me go. We did bump up my next appointment by a day so that I could be checked a little sooner, just for good measure. Wednesday I went in and after 15 minutes or so my doctor came in and said she had seen all she needed to see and wanted me to go straight to the hospital so that they could put me on medicine to stop the contractions. She looked at me irritatedly and said, "Aren't you feeling these?!" I was kind of taken aback. I had felt tightening off an...

Spring Break

Image
Sooo, we had a fantastic spring break last week. We had debated traveling somewhere, but in the end we decided to stay put and add a little extra money to our "fun" budget for the month. We loaded up the week with local family fun activities and it was sooo nice. Even the weather cooperated, giving us a couple of absolutely beautiful days! Man, what a good week. On Monday we slept in a little and ate waffles when we all woke up. Ahhh... :-) Jayce went out to get some car stuff taken care of in the afternoon and while he was gone I set up our 2-man tent in the living room. When Jayce got home we spent the evening in the tent reading to Cameron and watching "Once Upon a Time". We were hoping Cam would fall asleep in there so that we could snuggle with him while we watched, but alas there was just too much fun to be had. After playing a bit more we put him down in his room and then came back out to enjoy some s'mores. Cruel, right? Jayce and I didn't sleep in...
