Spencer's Birth Story

Image
After those last days of trying my hardest to push away the heightening anticipation of Spencer's arrival, he finally arrived two weeks ago today! Now those days seem so far away. It's amazing how quickly the tables turn. Your life seems to be building up to one particular moment for so long and then all of a sudden you're on the other side of that moment and it's like life has never been any different. Here is the last "belly picture" I took before his arrival and I only thought about it because my parents had requested one. The difference between the first and the fourth kid I guess. This was just a couple of days prior to his birthday. Well, for all of you birth story enthusiasts and for my posterity, here is the story if you so wish to read it. Fair warning: it's probably going to be long. I woke up on Monday morning with that "my due date was yesterday and now I'm just depressed that he's not here yet" feeling. I was a...

Random

Jack was getting down from a chair when he fell face first onto the stone floor that lines the edge of the basement. Luckily his forehead got the brunt of it, or else I'm sure he would have chipped teeth and needed stitches. He almost instantly got a goose egg bigger than any of our kids have ever gotten though. It was HUGE. We had to strap an ice pack to it for as long as Jack would allow it, but as you can imagine it looked pretty bad for a while. Now he just has a dark bruise there and some of the blood even drained into the skin between his nose and left eye. Poor boy.  I got this message from a friend several days ago and had to document it. It's too good! Life with a doctor.

Waiting for Spencer

Image
You know how on Instagram and Facebook you often come across someone's baby bedroom reveal? And they are darling, often themed, color coordinated, and perfectly pristine?  Like this: Or this: Well here's ours! Hahaha. Spencer gets the corner of the bedroom! And a pack and play will be popping up somewhere near my side of the bed upon his arrival. No, the pack and play will not be color coordinated. See that box? That's Spencer's dresser for the time being.  I think I kind of redeemed myself with the quilt though, right? First time I've made a "legit" quilt in my eyes and I do love it. It was on my bucket list. Joking aside though, I'm just so excited to bring him home. People keep asking me how I'm feeling, and I keep getting that "daaang girl" look walking around in public. I've lost track of how many people look at me with wide eyes and gesture with their hands for emphasis while saying something like...

Joy School Graduation

Image
Cameron had his Joy School graduation. Three of five of the families in the group were in the process of moving, so we just decided to bump graduation up a couple of months. It was thrown together last minute, but it happened and they enjoyed it so all is well! Bammy even cleared her schedule so that she could come down and make a special appearance.

Draper Views

Image
I've done this several times on the blog, but I can't help doing it again. I will never get over this view. Here was a day when the cities below were covered by fog, but up above it we could see clouds and blue skies. It was amazing. Notice the fog licking up at the houses in that part of the neighborhood? This was a stormy day. We were able to watch the rain's progression until it hit us, as well as see the places that still had sunshine. Incredible.

Georgia On My Mind

Image
Well, we finally know where we are going to spend the next three years of our lives!  Georgia! It was our top choice and we couldn't be happier about it. Jayce loved the program, the people, and the area when he went out to interview. Other than that he just had a great gut feeling about it, which pushed it to the top of the list. Out of the 8 locations he interviewed, Georgia was one of two places he went where upon walking out of his interview he couldn't wait to call me and tell me all about it. I won't lie, once I learned that it was about 8 hours from my VA family, 4 hours from my sister in NC, and about 8 from my sister-in-law's family in FL I was pretty excited about it. I tried really hard to suppress my hopes just in case, but it was too hard. I would have needed to mentally adjust to matching somewhere else. This is the first time since fall of 2007 when I started college that I will live within driving distance of my east coast family! Spea...

St. Patrick's Day

Image
I really don't consider myself a huge St. Patrick's Day person, but because I loved that my sister had a leprechaun named after a Harry Potter character and couldn't resist the urge it became a "thing" for our family. The boys aren't even into it that much, but I get an inner happy chuckle each year when I think about Rebekah's leprechaun named Seamus and our leprechaun named Finnigan and how they are both named after the same Harry Potter character and so the nerd in me will never let the tradition go! Remember this guy: Seamus Finnigan my friends. This year Finnigan left Kiwis, some crayons and water colors from my closet stash, and a rainbow parachute. He normally leaves colorful, rainbow-like things. Notice Cameron's face? He's sad because he can't figure out how to open the parachute. Oh man! Jayce's cousin had 7 tickets to the Utah Jazz game that night that they were no longer going to use, so we happily took t...
