Cameron's Birthday


It's true, we are the parents of a 1-year-old! It was pretty fun for Jayce and I, especially because Jayce didn't have to go into work that day. We went in to wake him up in the morning singing happy birthday and he just burst into tears, haha! That will be a memorable video. :-)

Right now Cameron is crawling like crazy, he's pretty vocal, and he pulls up on everything. He walks holding onto things, but he doesn't like it enough to attempt it on his own. He loooves eating bread and he'll down yogurt like there's no tomorrow. He's kind of off and on with veggies/fruit. Sometimes he eats it all up and other times he chews on it and then spits it out. Jayce and I just love his latest habit of picking food up and chucking it on the ground...not! Everytime we look at him sternly and say, "Cameron, no. We do not throw our food on the ground." He listens to us and then smiles immediately after we're done talking. It makes it really hard to keep our strong faces on.
He is very shy around strangers. He normally hangs out right by me, crawling around in my lap and holding on to my front with both of his hands. As he eases into the situation he'll be content with one hand holding onto Mom and eventually he'll turn to face the world around him. Then he branches outside of Mom's lap. Anytime we're holding him and someone comes up to say how cute he is or smile/coo at him he puts his head on our shoulder...we secretly love it!
He is SUCH a Daddy's boy! He'll pass up Mom for Dad any day of the week. Jayce just has a way with kids, you should hope he can be your child's pediatrician. He loves loves loves Jayce. They are pretty cute to watch. :-)

Something big arrived in the Porter Family early in the morning on September 29! Spencer's Birth Story

After those last days of trying my hardest to push away the heightening anticipation of Spencer's arrival, he finally arrived two weeks ago today! Now those days seem so far away. It's amazing how quickly the tables turn. Your life seems to be building up to one particular moment for so long and then all of a sudden you're on the other side of that moment and it's like life has never been any different. Mom's Gone

My Mom died in the early hours of June 29 of complications from pneumonia. She was one month shy of her 67 th birthday. I’ll be processing everything from the morning of her death to the day she was buried for a long time. I’m so grateful that I was able to talk to my mom just two days before she passed. I had sat down at my computer after rocking Spencer to sleep and it was quiet time in the Porter house. My mind went blank as soon as I sat down and I relaxed, which is abnormal because I usually feel torn between doing ten things at once when I sit down to “get stuff done” during quiet time. So I thought, “Well, what should I do? It’s been a while since I talked to Mom...” When I asked her how she was she answered, “Well, actually not so good,” and she explained that she had just come home from the doctor’s office where she found out that she had pneumonia.   She filled me in on some details from her appointment and how she had been feeling recently.
