Muir Woods and the Golden Gate Bridge
Well, we had a lot on our to-do list for this trip. We prepped the boys for the long car ride by talking about all the fun things we were going to do in California a couple of weeks pre-trip. They had a penny jar going to earn some things to do in the car too. Anything we could think of! Of the stuff that we pitched to them, the Golden Gate Bridge was what they seemed most excited about, especially Cameron.
One day in Joy School Cameron looked at his friends and said, "Guys, guess what?!" (with his hands out in front of him and a cute big grin on his face like he was about to unveil that Santa was about to come to Joy School THAT DAY.) "I'm going to walk on the Golden Gate Bridge! It's the biggest bridge!" My heart melted. We had to do the bridge. Also, someone fact check me because I have no idea if it really is the biggest bridge. In the U.S. at least, maybe?
We saw the bridge the night before when we drove in, but we drove across it for the first time on our way to Muir Woods.
Muir Woods. Oh my goodness Muir Woods! It was beautiful. These pictures are far from doing it justice. If I had no responsibilities I might just go sit there all day. These Redwoods weren't short of impressive.
This tree slice came from a tree 1025 years old that sprouted in 912 AD. That's cool.
Father of twins!
Ever heard of burl wood? It comes from those gross looking tree growths. That's a burl.
The boys were tired from all the walking by the end of it. We spent a lot of time in there. Jayce was a champ and carried two for part of it.
Afterwards we went and had lunch in a cute town on the bay called Sausalito. Here's a view of San Francisco from where we were:
Aunt Tee teaching Cameron how to play tic-tac-toe while waiting for our food.
Finally, the Golden Gate Bridge!! It had been a long day and we were entering traffic hour, so we walked to the first tower thing and then turned around instead of walking the whole bridge. The boys got out and walked for a little bit, but for the most part they liked looking through the fence from their strollers. It was a great day.
