Utah on Fire
Well, fires seem to be the name of the game this summer. The fire in CO is heartbreaking. Utah's been having scares with them as well, although luckily homes have remained safe. We had just barely gotten home from VA when one started really close to our house in Draper. I was driving David on an errand in the neighborhood when we noticed some smoke, so we decided to go check it out. We found a bunch of cars pulled over checking it out too. It was on the mountain above Alpine, but although it had a lot of smoke, I just figured it was fine and that the fire department was probably all over it and it wasn't a big deal. Here is what it looked like when we first saw it:
I'm sure the fire department was all over it, but the mountains are just so dry and it hit a barn and had enough fuel to just surge. Here is what it looked like from the back deck of our house about 15-20 minutes later:
It was HUGE! We turned on the news and got the twitter updates from the community and within just a couple of hours of being home everything suddenly went crazy for a little while. Two communities at the base of the mountain were put under evacuation, and our community was put under an evacuation warning, meaning get ready in case we tell you to evacuate. We got our 72 hour kits together, lock boxes with important information in them, etc. It was scary! I'm not going to lie, I was kinda freaking out. Scott was going around taking pictures of all of the furniture/electronics/paintings for home insurance purposes, I was packing up stuff in Cam's room, David was packing up the Wii and DVD's. It was crazy. I'm soooo glad things calmed down after a while and we didn't have to evacuate.
Pictures from the front of the house. Pretty crazy, huh?
